He also coaches football and track, and you’ll often hear his voice on the mic at various events. Coach Hemby is known for his smile and positive attitude that brightens everyone's day. Mrs. Taylor's classes celebrated Bird Appreciation Day early with Blooket about chickens!
Mrs. Lukefahr’s Algebra class are demonstrating Peter Liljedahl’s researched based instruction from his book, Building Thinking Classrooms. These students are using team work to solve problems. Once the problem has a correct solution, one student is chosen to verbalize the process, which requires proficient understanding. They now prefer BTC DAYS over other methods of learning. Thanks to CHS principal, Ms. Schiller and CAO Academic Services Coordinator, Mr. Cato, and SEMO Math Consultant, Lynn Poe with professional development days to help our instructors learn more diverse ways for students to grow and learn.
The ABCToday Network recently hosted the Entry Level Employment and Career Fair at Cape Central High School, connecting 900+ students with 30+ local employers. Students explored job opportunities for teens, high school graduates, those interested in trade programs, and college-bound students.
This year’s event also provided valuable "how-to" resources on getting a driver's license, obtaining vital documents, and applying for a passport — helping students take the next step toward their future.
Cape Central High students took center stage during a powerful Black History Month program. The event was originally scheduled for February but was postponed due to a winter storm. The rescheduled presentation did not disappoint. Students showcased a variety of talents, from singing and heartfelt poetry to an educational presentation on the history of Black hairstyles. The audience was treated to a program full of learning, creativity, passion, and talent. Adding to the special occasion was guest speaker Breanna Harris, a Cape Central alumna, and current news anchor and reporter for KFVS12. She inspired students with her words and shared the importance of having different voices telling stories in the field of news. We would like to send a special thanks to the CHS Yearbook Staff for capturing these memorable moments through photos.
The Cape Central High School football team doesn’t take weekends off — on or off the field.
Recently, the team spent their Saturday volunteering at SEMO Pets, a local animal shelter. From making special treats to walking dogs and giving the animals some much-needed attention, these athletes showed that teamwork goes beyond the gridiron.
Under the leadership of Coach Shaddix, the players helped make the day special for the animals and the staff at the shelter. Their dedication to serving the community is truly commendable.

Our Black History Month Presentation got postponed because of weather last month so we got to enjoy it today. The student body got to see everything from singing to poems to the history of black hair styles. It was an awesome presentation by some awesome students. And thank you to Breanna Harris for being our speaker!
ABC Today and Career Education Adviser Mrs. Strothmann organized a Career Fair for all classes last week. We want to thank all the businesses and organizations that came to speak to our students. It was a complete success!
Congratulations to all who competed in the Speech & Debate Acting & Performance Tournament on Saturday, March 8th at Ladue High School. Jordyn Rash, Lizzy Proctor, Sahil Khot, Breyonna Coleman and Yuliana OrellanaPeralta. Special congratulations to Jordyn Rash who qualified in two events for State & Lizzy Proctor who qualified in one event for the state competition.
Cape Central's FBLA spent a couple hours on Saturday volunteering with Feed My Starving Children. Mrs. Taylor was very proud of the kids that were able to come and everyone had fun at the same time.
Today we had guest speaker Sandy Crites, Branch Manager of Region's Bank talking to Ms. Hull’s Consumer Ed class about Budgeting, Savings & Checking.
Kindergarten screening will be held March 10-14 for all children attending kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must turn five years of age on or before July 31, 2025. This is the first competition CHS has hosted in 6 years and it was a complete success. Thank you everyone for letting us use your rooms, thank you Mrs Newman for preparing the food and serving it. Thank you to the student volunteers. A special thank you to student volunteer - Donna Clark for helping run the hospitality room. We had a total of 9 schools from as far as Fox, Clearwater, Doniphan to our close neighbors participate in the tournament.
Also, wanted to let everyone know former student Noah Smentkowski assisted with judging multiple events. He is currently a professor at SEMO. And the head of the Speech & Debate team on a collegiate level.

We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate our students' outstanding achievements at the Job Olympics! It was an incredible day filled with engaging interviews, exciting competitions, and inspiring community involvement. Watching our students showcase their talents, determination, and passion was truly amazing. Not only did they compete at their best, but they also gained invaluable skills and experiences that will serve them well in the future.

Recently the boys basketball team volunteered at Chili Day. The made CHS proud again!
The Student Youth Council Committee was honored at the February 2025 CGPS Board Meeting. This group of students from all buildings across the District has met monthly this school year, engaging in meaningful discussions on important topics based on their experiences and feedback. Students shared some action items they are currently implementing in their buildings. Great job, Tigers!

Jaedyn Hethcote, a student at Cape Central High, has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Senator's Choice Award for the 2025 Senate Art Exhibition. The event will take place on April 10th in Jefferson City, Missouri. Jaedyn's artwork was chosen from hundreds of entries submitted by students from across the state. "This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Jaedyn's outstanding talent and creativity," said CHS Art Department Chair Jon Daniels.
