Drop off/Pick-Up
It is the goal of the Cape Girardeau School District to prove a safe environment for students. The district recognizes that rules regarding drop-off and dismissal of students are a necessary part of the district’s safety program.
Please review the following policy and procedures for drop-off & pick-up for Central Middle School:
Drop Off: Doors open daily at 7:00 am. All students should enter the school building through the Caruthers Street front entrance ONLY. For the safety of your child and our staff, please DO NOT drop off or pick up in the back staff parking lot. Students arriving between 7:00-7:40 am will go to the library for morning tutoring, students arriving after 7:40 am will go to the cafe and then at 7:50am to their classrooms. Students in morning tutoring will be released to their classrooms at 7:50 am. A free breakfast is served daily from 7:50 - 8:15 am.
Pick Up: CMS will dismiss at 3:20 pm. Car riders and walkers will be dismissed first. Fifth grade car riders and walkers will exit out the Northeast exit and should be picked up along Caruthers Street. Sixth grade car riders and walkers will exit our North exit, by the flagpole, and will be picked up along Thilenius Street. Please note, no car riders or walkers will exit out the main entrance. Bus riders will be dismissed after car riders/walkers as their buses arrive.
Importantly, when dropping off or picking up students from CMS, parents must pull over to the shoulder of the road to load and unload their student. For the safety of everyone, please do not drop off or pick up your student in the middle of the street or crosswalk.
Students not picked up by 3:35pm will be brought back to the building and begin to call for rides. If students remain in the building after this time, parents will be required to come into the office to sign the student out of school.
